Bourbon Hunter
Bourbon Hunter Privacy Policy
Information used for bottle discovery and your Collection, the services involved, and your privacy choices.
Effective date:
This notice describes the Bourbon Hunter invited beta for iPhone. Privacy for the studio website is covered separately.
Bourbon Hunter helps you identify bottles, discover bottle information and manage your collection. It is operated by 1011 Studios LLC. For privacy questions or support, email support@1011studios.net and include “Bourbon Hunter” in the subject.
Information we use
Your account. We use your email address, name, account identifiers, sign-in information and any optional phone number you provide to create and maintain your account. Supabase handles authentication. We also keep your selected plan, usage allowance and related account activity.
Bottle discovery. We process photos you take or select, bottle details you type, and details extracted from spoken input to identify bottles and return information. An image can contain more than its label; please avoid including people, documents or other private information. Search details may include a bottle or producer name, style, age, proof, year and relevant text fragments, together with the input method, language, input length and speech duration.
Your Collection and saved activity. We store the bottle identities, nicknames, acquisition dates, opened or unopened status, remaining quantity, gifted or finished status, storage-location names, saved photos and other details you choose to retain. Saved hunts and searches can include their bottle details and results.
Technical information. To operate the app, apply usage allowances and investigate errors, we use installation, account and request identifiers; device, operating-system and app versions; event and error details; and diagnostic records from bottle discovery. Some diagnostics can include an image, location context, search input or generated analysis. We treat account-linked diagnostics as personal information.
Photos, voice and location
You choose whether to grant camera, microphone, photo and location permissions. You can change those permissions in iPhone Settings. Declining a permission can prevent the related feature from working. Saving a captured image to your Photos library is optional.
Voice transcription uses Apple’s on-device speech tools. Bourbon Hunter does not upload a raw audio recording through this flow. The bottle details extracted from your speech and associated search metadata are sent to our services to perform the search; the resulting search does not stay entirely on your phone.
With location permission, the app uses your location for nearby store and pricing features. Apple MapKit receives a region based on your coordinates to suggest nearby stores. Our backend receives location-derived query bounds. Local caches and diagnostic records can also contain location context.
AI processing and your choices
Bourbon Hunter uses OpenAI to identify bottle-label images and research bottle information, including through web search. Photos and bottle details sent for these features may contain personal information you include in them.
The app asks you to review this policy and choose whether to allow AI processing of your bottle photos and search details. You can change this choice in Privacy & Data. The choice is stored for your account on this device, not in our database, and does not synchronize to other devices. A new installation or device may ask again. An iPhone camera or microphone permission alone does not grant AI-sharing permission. If you do not allow AI processing, you can still browse your saved information and manage your account; features that send new information for AI processing are unavailable.
Turning off AI processing stops new sharing requests from this app on this device. Work already submitted may finish, and information already sent cannot be recalled by changing the setting. The choice does not remove saved information or change another device’s choice. Providers handle their own records under their applicable terms.
Services and sharing
- Supabase provides authentication, database storage, uploaded-image storage and backend processing.
- OpenAI processes bottle-label images and bottle information for identification and research.
- Apple provides speech and map/search services and distributes the beta through TestFlight.
Our primary database is in Northern Virginia, United States. That location does not mean every service-provider copy remains in that region.
Store names, addresses, coordinates and bottle-price information you contribute can be available to other signed-in users. These shared facts support nearby-store and pricing features. Your private Collection notes are separate. Please do not enter private contact details into shared store or pricing fields. Published catalogue facts can remain after account deletion, with the account link removed where applicable.
Following a link to a retailer, source or other website takes you to a service with its own privacy practices.
How long information is kept
We retain account records, Collection content, saved hunt/search facts and photos you deliberately retain until you remove them or delete your Bourbon Hunter account.
Our retention target for raw search and provider diagnostics is 30 days, using the original content or source date. Copying or replaying a record does not restart that target period. Normalized saved bottle facts and deliberately retained photos have the longer retention described above. On your iPhone, expired diagnostic records are cleaned up when the app runs, including before diagnostic reads; a phone that is offline or not running the app cannot be cleaned remotely at an exact time.
Our retention target for abandoned uploads is 7 days. An upload is abandoned only when it has no valid retained account, Collection, hunt, search, photo or active-work reference. An older saved photo is not abandoned merely because of its age.
Scheduled server cleanup is not enabled in this beta. The 30-day and 7-day periods are retention targets, not guarantees of automatic removal; server records can remain longer. Contact us about removal requests. An expired result does not by itself prove that every underlying copy has been removed.
A copy you save or share in Files, Photos or another service is under your control.
Inquiry and support emails are retained for 12 months after resolution, then deleted unless a legal obligation requires a longer period.
Backups and provider records
Our database uses daily physical backups covering approximately seven days. Point-in-time recovery is not enabled. Those backups include uploaded-file metadata, but not the uploaded photo files. Deleted records can remain in a backup until it expires. Restored data must remain unavailable until account deletions and retention controls have been reapplied.
OpenAI’s retention can differ from our cleanup rules, including abuse-monitoring records and application state. For new Responses requests, we turn off optional response storage. This setting does not erase information from earlier requests. Temporary background processing and abuse monitoring can still retain information. This does not promise zero provider retention or deletion of every provider-held copy. See OpenAI’s API data controls.
Export, correction and account deletion
To request a copy of your Bourbon Hunter account information, contact support from your account email. In-app account export is not available in this beta. You can edit your name and optional phone number in Profile. Email changes use the account confirmation process; your current email remains in use until the required confirmation is complete.
In-app account deletion is not yet available in this beta. Email support@1011studios.net from your account email to request deletion.
A Bourbon Hunter deletion request applies to your Bourbon Hunter account and owned content. It does not authorize deletion of other people’s records, shared catalogue information or another product’s records. If your sign-in identity is also needed by another product, that identity must remain. Identity removal depends on completing the required ownership checks and cleanup. This process does not delete copies you saved or shared outside the app. Deleting the app from your iPhone does not delete your server account.
For access, correction, deletion or an unresolved request, email support@1011studios.net, preferably from your account email. We may request information reasonably needed to verify your identity before disclosing or changing account information. Do not send a password or verification code. David Livingston handles these requests for 1011 Studios LLC.
TestFlight and intended audience
The first invited beta is intended for adults 21 or older in the United States.
Apple provides crash and usage information and feedback you submit through TestFlight. Feedback can include comments, screenshots, device/app details and identifying information. We use it to investigate beta issues and keep it separate from bottle-search and photo AI inputs. Apple says it retains beta feedback for one year and may retain crash and usage information until bugs are resolved. See Apple’s TestFlight privacy notice. Feedback you email to support follows the support-correspondence period above.
Changes and contact
We will update this policy when our data practices change and revise its effective date. Material changes will receive an appropriate notice. For questions, contact 1011 Studios LLC at support@1011studios.net.
